And although Pierce seems to be nothing more than that, he can be very sweet sometimes.
From what I've read, Chevy has a hard time telling when a joke has gone too far or stopped being funny.
In Pierce's case this was due to advanced age and his offensive opinions on race, religion and sex. Not that Season 5 is by any stretch of the imagination Unpopular opinion puffin here: I don't think it's as good as season Somewhere, Chang just told everyone to turn on me. But totally agree - I'm practically Abed. These made him the perfect lightning rod for criticism and also diverted attention away from any other study group being mocked. Pierce Hawthorne may have been an occasionally annoying, boring, and offensive character, but he was also a key cog in the Community machinery whose sageness was often undercut but occasionally well-used, and his impact will almost surely still be felt as the show goes on. Community is an American television sitcom created by Dan Harmon. And I've gotten the feeling that a lot of Pierce going too far, and being too much of a dick, came a lot from Chevy demanding that his character be portrayed that way because it's what he thought was funny.A great example of this was a story Dan Harmon told in his AMA.
Nah.The most underrated definitely in seasons 1 and 2. Pierce was the best character on community.
This gets the attention of his father who disapproves of his decision.
The show, set at the fictional Greendale Community College, depicts the on-campus exploits of students brought together when they form a study group.
Obviously the show's still going, but since Chevy's left, gotsta use past tense.I really liked how dimensional Pierce was.
Just white.
It was really touching to me when they showed that the reason why he was so needy for attention was because his dad neglected him so much. His motivation for suddenly becoming an overly evil prick felt like it came out of nowhere, and was mostly to fuel the plot of the episode. It was put there as a small part of a sexual harassment lawsuit settlement Pierce was involved in. You're delusional. Pierce: If you knew what spooked me, you'd probably call me crazy and old. Thus we never got the scene.I don't think Chevy actually found the show unfunny. Apparently the anti-drug episode portrayed Chevy spot on with how he doesn't know when a joke has run its course. Jeff, Abed and Annie are better though. He is by far better than Troy. I don't really relate to Pierce, but I truly think he was the best character in the show.
He was socially out of his element, but he still craved connection. As Community has started to blow up for a second time due to Netflix, the hatred for Pierce and Chevy Chase is circulating once again. The main cast members from the pilot episode are Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, and Chevy Chase. During a wake held in the cafeteria, he helps to incite a riot, which gets him and the study group kicked out of Greendale. just like Pierce. Chevy apparently thought this wasn't funny because it was too sentimental, and refused to shoot it. Anyone agree with me? Not long afterwards, the group learns about Pierce's death. Then somewhere along the lines in season 2 they decided to just make him a crazy asshole, and he was off and on from there.I remember the turning point for me was in the first DnD episode. He then introduces the new digital dad to Pierce, and we end on a sentimental moment where Pierce gets to have a father figure for the first time.
)Maybe that's why he was so great for the role. (Spoilers) spoiler.
I expect your crumpled up paper balls in due time.He wasn't the best character, but he was one of the Greendale 7.
Hell yes. Pierce was always my favorite character on the show and his good moments always seemed more touching to me.Right? Interested to hear what others think.I agree with you. The season would have been saved if Donald or Chevy stayed on, but losing them both made the show worse. Although Pierce's prerecorded message is specifically about announcing a new campus Gender Sensitivity and Sexual Potency museum named after him, it serves to remind a Jeff about all that is good about Greendale. He was just tired of playing a racist and tired of the work schedule so he lashed out.Pierce was an amazing character and I would love to see him come back.
Pierce had some incredible moments in the show.
I think Pierce was an amazing character with huge development from season one. I still relate more to Jeff and Abed though.Of course, the whole story never matters to people.I don't really relate to Pierce, but I truly think he was the best character in the show. Jokes and clever storytelling are still there, but season five was just lacking for me, and I've never really realised why, but I think it was because of the lack of Chevy.I exactly agree.
... Pierce Hawthorne on the other hand is the complete opposite. Feeling Greendale is responsible for how miserable all their lives have become, Jeff manipulates the study group into suing the school. So yes I definitely agree with you :(Unfortunately, I think I realised why season five didn't resonate with me as much as earlier seasons, and I think it was because of Chevy.Of course, the ensemble is still there. In the video game episode there was supposed to be an extra scene shot in which Abed reprograms Pierce's dad in the video game to actually be more like a father and be nice to Pierce. Do I love Troy?
Even "Polygraphy" showed that his character made a Definitely above Shirley and Britta, I've been thinking he's maybe even better than Troy. Anyone got any differing views? Jeff tries to stick up for Pierce but ends up causing Cornelius to have a heart attack, which he dies from. And different mental disorder (by the way - when did Abed stop making movies?!)
