It did have a smell but after some fabric freshener and airing out, it was fine. It was like sleeping on a cloud. This is super thin...maybe an inch. We gave it time to puff up, per the instructions, but one side wasn't cut straight and it had a big circular cut out of the side - as if I milk jug had been placed on the edge and someone cut out the foam in that shape.
