If your Microsoft account has been compromised, it means that someone might be using your account to access your personal info or send spam.

I must be missing something simple. The method you showed is exactly the same method I always use to get rid of the password. In the meantime the information on their newsfeed is restricted to a few posts, without updating. And as soon as you check that unread message the notification dot appearing should go away on its own.
