Fashion shows, art exhibitions, cultural … I'd suggest Hongdae, there's tons of cafes and shops and is very lively for younger people.
Not only in music and fashion but in foods!
All they see are office buildings on the main road and think it’s boring. And Gangnam is also kind of far as a tourist if you’re hopping around every day back and forth and back and forth. That being said, I have lived in Gangnam for four years and think it’s the best neighborhood...but not as a tourist :-). Hongdae is one of the best places to experience the youth of Korea. Myeongdong, in my opinion (living here for 4 years), is only really good for shopping. That being said, they're just a short subway ride apart. Happy to show you some places though.Hmm, I think I’m leaning towards Hongdae then as it seems to be what I’m looking for. Most of these venues are located in the city’s vibrant districts, including Myeongdong, Gangnam and Hongdae. We were planning to stay at Hongdea & Myeondong as well.

We chose Myeondong in the end.
You have option to stay near Ehwa or Hongkik universities.
Here, you’ll find all kinds of cafes, shops and restaurants. The best shopping malls in Seoul attract shopping enthusiasts from all over the world. However, it’s all the activities that make the place seem so alive.
Because of the nearby subway, it was so convenient to travel to east/ west/south/ north with a few train rides away.
Myeongdong, in my opinion (living here for 4 years), is only really good for shopping. Multiple options of cafes, restaurants and shops. On the 2nd day of my trip, I headed off westwards towards Ewha and Hongdae, both areas close to universities, and well known for having great and affordable … I don’t really care if I’m closer to the historical sites or the more tourist-y attractions. I prefer, a place that’s full of shops, cafes and somewhere where it’s not dead at night. So far I’ve been in a bit of a dilemma on whether to stay in Myeong-dong or Hongdae. To help you save time, we narrowed it down to the top 4 best Korean restaurants in Hongdae. It's become extremely crowded and geared towards international (mostly Chinese) tourists looking to load up on makeup and clothes. This is creeping into Hongdae, but it still maintains a fair bit of its originality.
Is There Other Budget Way To Get To Hongik University Vibrant Street Without Using Subway Train? Although I do prefer Hongdae and Sinchon over Myeong-dong as I’m not much of a shopper, I would definitely recommend staying here if you are. I’m planning my first trip to Seoul but I’ll only be staying for 5 days.I’m looking for a lively area that would interest a younger crowd. Instead, we put in a full day covering Hongdea area (including Ehwa & Hongik campuses) having our lunch & dinner there with 2 breaks at some nice chic cafes just watching the crowd. Most of the posts you’ve seen so far are of what I refer to as Central Seoul – the palaces Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung, and the Myeongdong area where Namsangol Hanok and N Seoul Tower are. So far, everyone has suggested to stay away from Myeong-dong so I’ll probably just visit it for shopping but I won’t be staying there.Gangnam has great nightlife, transportation and restaurants, but it’s not as accessible without some Korean. What should I do?What can I do during a short or long layover at Incheon International Airport? What other things can I do in Seoul or should know about? My thoughts: Myeong-dong not only has some of the best shopping in Seoul, it is also extremely central to the major sites. I just looked up "best place to stay in Seoul" on Google and Myeongdong is on the first page. While I was searching online it’s the first thing that pops up as a highly recommended place but I wanted to double check in reddit. It was right next to a bus stop and a short walk from the metro. You can also enjoy fun-filled attractions within these shopping malls, such as aquariums, museums, theatres, and art galleries.
I’d appreciate it if anyone has a suggestion on either of those or if you have another recommendation. If your two choices are Myeongdong and Hongdae, Hongdae is by far the best choice.
5N Seoul (either Hongdae/Myeongdong NOT BOTH) For my choice in Seoul: Myeong-dong area - I prefer this area due to accessibility by Euljiro-1-ga and Myeong-dong area. The area is lively with street market and hawkers until 11pm. Myeongdong is a Chinese tourist trap and is dead at night. These were my main 2 choices but I’m open for suggestions if you have better recommendations! It is a place where many trends start and culture begins. Rome2rio makes travelling from Myeongdong (Station) to Hongik University Station easy.
