Pretty easy hike. Rising 4629 feet, Max is a rolling, sprawling stretch of mountain meadow that offers plentiful sunshine, incredible views, and an on-top-of-the-world feeling. Bring an SUV (though there were plenty of cars there). lots of signs for snakes but we didn't see any. There are plenty places to camp in tents as well as hammocks. The drive up is a little nerve wracking, gravel roads uphill but our all-wheel car handled it fine. 209 south for 7.2 miles and turn right on Meadow Fork Road. The Max Patch Loop Trail encircles the base connecting to the SR 1182 parking lot and the Buckeye Ridge Trail. Very happy I did it overall.Awesome hike. Nice and breezy on top too! I would recommend doing this loop clockwise, we went counterclockwise and there were a lot of stairs to go up that didn’t work out very well for our older party. The road can be rough in areas, (mostly heading up to Browns Gap where my Nissan Versa bottomed out causing me to have to replace my exhaust system). Literally from a fairy tail.
